Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017)

How I Found It

Found this one through an insta reel. I was lately obsessed with a song from this movie, called “Haareya” sung by Arijit Singh. Had a 4-day work break incoming, so yes, midnight movie, “Meri Pyaari Bindu” it is.

A Glimpse

The movie starts with Ayushmann Khurrana a.k.a Abhimanyu Roy a.k.a Bubla Roy, the best-selling author trying to brew ideas. He is annoyed, tearing pages and throwing them at posters of his successful young-adult Hindi books. E.g. Awara Dhoban. I know its cringe. Thats all the spoilers you get.

The movie is a romance, coming of age, melodramatic piece. The timeline is big, so its a lot of stuff packed in 2 hours. Set in 1990s, popular golden era songs are freely used. Superb acting. Kolkata, Mumbai, Goa visuals are nice.

Interpretation

Takeaways are many. But any more description will be a spoiler.

The first one that comes to my mind is this: Love drives some people. They make it the purpose of their lives, whereas for some, it drives them crazy. Maturity is when you realise that none of them are wrong. Its life.

Pyaar karna toh sab sikhaate hain, Par saala uss pyaar ko bhulaate kaise hain, Yeh koi nahi sikhaata.

— Abhimanyu Roy
